The Federal Reserve Bank
Are you interested in learning about money and banking? Then the Federal Reserve Bank will be the right place for you.
Be aware though, that the New York fed can close to the public at any time if security is needed so check ahead first.
The tours which last about an hour will give you a chance to learn about the banking system of the United States and the role of "The Fed" in the U.S. economy, as well as a chance to visit the Gold Vault located five stories below street level.
The Gold Vault contains roughly 540,000 gold bars belonging to 48 foreign countries and 12 international organizations in the Federal Reserve's subterranean gold vault and contains about 25 percent of the world's gold reserves.
If coins are your thing, then visit the exhibit co-sponsored by the American Numismatic Society that shows the most valuable coins and medals. There are more than 800 examples from the Society's noted collection of one million forms of currency used worldwide and spanning three millennia of history.
Tours are free, but space is very limited. Up to 30 visitors can be accommodated on each tour.
Reservations can be made by email (frbnytours@ny.frb.org), but calling 212-720-6130 will allow you immediate information about availability.
